Stirlingkit OKMO & RETROL B01
Ball Top Vertical Hit and Miss Engine

This is an Okmo & Retrol B01 Ball Top Vertical Hit & Miss Engine, supplied to me by Stirling kit for review. It is a ready
to run engine, just oil, add water and fuel and you are good to go. It is a very accurate model of a real engine, a
Baker 4HP Monitor Ball Top Hit & Miss Engine. These were manufactured in the early 1900s.

The model is very well boxed and comes sandwiched between two dedicated precut high density foam inlays.
Apart from the model, you receive an instruction booklet and a bag containing spare O-rings and a driving dog.
The driving dog can be used with an electric drill to assist with starting the engine.

Preparation before running is fairly straight forward. I used light machine oil in the drip oiler and in the two bearing cap
oil cups. In the fuel tank I used standard unleaded petrol mixed with a few drops of 2-Stroke oil. The ignition unit which
is located in the small wooden box behind the engine requires one AA battery. Finally fill the ball hopper with water.

I left the carburettor screw and the oiler screw exactly as they were supplied from the factory. With the ignition off I
placed my finger over the air intake and rotated the flywheel three times as indicated in the instructions. Turning the
ignition on and using the supplied pull cord to spin the engine it started first try. The engine runs superbly and
doesn't jump around very much. It is also very quiet. As this is an internal combustion engine and does produce
exhaust gases, I recommend only running it for short periods indoors.

I really can't find fault with this engine. It is beautifully made and a joy to run.
